Mark Millar Announces ‘Prodigy’ For Netflix

Mark Millar, famed writer of comic turned movie titles such as Kick-Ass, Kingsmen: The Secret Service, and Wanted has done it again! Mark is the president of the Millarworld division of Netflix and has inked a deal to bring a new title first to the Comicbook Stores and later to the mega streaming service called Prodigy. What is Prodigy?

According to Netflix, which made the announcement, Prodigy centers on Edison Crane, the world’s smartest man who isn’t content with running the world’s most successful business: “His brilliant mind needs constant challenge and so he’s become the go-to guy for governments around the world when a problem arises they just can’t handle. A Nobel-Prize winning scientist, a genius composer, an Olympic-level athlete and an expert in the occult, Edison Crane is as addicted to the mysteries of the world as he is to sitting at the top of the Fortune 500. These are the tales of the world’s most exceptional man and this story marks his first published adventure.” (via Hollywood Reporter)

Bring it on!

First, let’s dig into that name. Edison Crane. Love it. It’s just so on the nose Comic Book that you just have to love it. The two images that have been released give off a “Lex Luthor with Automatic weapons” vibe. I’m okay with this. The man is sharply dressed, and in one image, has incredibly complex equations behind him. Did I mention he’s casually holding an automatic rifle in both images as if they are fountain pens?

Second, my only question is, do we really need to wait for this to hit comics first and then jump to Netflix? Can we get that series… now?

Issue #1, which hits stores December 5, 2018, already has a variant cover created by artist Ozgur Yildirim. I for one, am jazzed by this and can not wait to see what Mark has in store. What types of stories do you think will come of this character? Let me know in the comments!
